Kyle Busch Comments on Struggles at Bristol Motor Speedway After Track Changes
Kyle Busch has had plenty of success at Bristol Motor Speedway, with five career victories on the track, but he hasn't won there since 2011. He had another tough day on the course Sunday, as he finished only 258 of the 500 laps.
According to Bob Pockrass of ESPN.com, Busch has been unhappy with the track since some banking was removed in 2012.
"This track has sucked for me ever since the grinding," he said. "I'm about sick and tired of coming here since it sucks to race."
Pockrass explained how drivers try to find success at the track now: "Drivers tend to hug the upper lane because the tire rubber in the upper lane creates more grip, giving the track mainly one preferred line."
Busch hasn't been able to adjust.
After melting a tire bead 52 laps in and spinning out on Lap 116, he battled back into the top 10 before another crash ended his race, according to Pockrass.
Fox Sports shared video footage of Busch spinning out on Lap 116:
"That was the weirdest thing I felt all weekend. … I'm not sure what happened," Busch said, per Pockrass. "Once I got single file there after that last restart, I was just cruising—I was just riding along. The car felt fine. I don't know why it kept getting tight and it kept blowing right fronts."
The No. 18 driver fell to fifth in the Sprint Cup standings, 25 points behind leader Kevin Harvick. It was a tough break for Busch, but he's had time to get used to the change, considering it happened four years ago.
He wasn't the only driver who had to deal with the conditions, either, and he may just be frustrated by his struggles at Bristol after dominating the course for so long.
