Cena Comments on Medical Status
Friday, April 1
Cena provided an encouraging update on his status Friday in an interview with Complex.com, per Ringside News:
"“If you ask me today, I should’ve been back two weeks ago. I’ve logged almost 400 hours of physical therapy. I got 111 visits in 12 weeks time. I go every single second I can. People say I have a Wolverine-like style of recovery. I was given a nine month quota to come back and after three months I can tell you that I am ready to do anything asked of me possible. It’s a matter of when they call me.”
"
Cena also noted he's been medically cleared to return.
The leader of Cenation underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, per Erin Edgemon of AL.com. While no timetable was given for his return, Nick Paglino of WrestleZone.com speculated he could miss between six and nine months.
In a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Middleton), it was reported Cena could be out until July.
During the announcement Orlando, Florida, had earned the right to host WrestleMania 33 in 2017, Cena declared he would not be able to compete at WrestleMania 32, according to WWE WrestleMania on Twitter:
Even so, he has continued to rehab feverishly and often posts videos on Twitter that suggest he is coming along at a rapid pace:
Cena has shown an ability to recover from injuries more quickly than most over the course of his career, but coming back three months after such a significant surgery would be quite impressive.
WrestleMania 32 is set for Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and while Cena is not scheduled to compete and hasn't even been announced to appear, the latest report regarding his injury creates some added intrigue.
If Cena is ultimately cleared by Sunday, then one match to keep an eye on is the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which was moved from the kickoff show to the main card.
Cena making a surprise entry and winning would likely lead to a huge reaction, and it is a match that wouldn't be particularly taxing for the future Hall of Famer.
