Liverpool Transfer News: Kevin Volland, Filip Kostic, Lucas Alario, Top Rumours
Liverpool are reportedly targeting Bundesliga duo Kevin Volland and Filip Kostic, as well as River Plate's Lucas Alario, as manager Jurgen Klopp prepares for a summer of squad rebuilding at Anfield.
According to German outlet Bild (via Metro's Max Miller), Liverpool have scouted both Hoffenheim's Volland and Stuttgart's Kostic with a view to bringing the pair to the club.
Both are 23 years old, and both can operate in advanced roles on either flank—with Volland also comfortable playing as a central striker.
With Hoffenheim struggling against relegation this season, Germany international Volland could well be open to a move away, and he would fit perfectly into Klopp's setup at Liverpool—as explained below by Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:
He is a creative attacker, able to beat players on the run and link up well with partnering forwards.
In 26 Bundesliga appearances this season, he has netted seven times and provided five assists, per WhoScored.com, which is a decent return in a struggling side.
As relayed by football writer Jack Lusby, Bild reported Volland's release clause is around £14 million, a relative steal for a player of his ability:
Serbian winger Kostic could also fit well into Klopp's attacking line, as he is a very adept dribbler and can also cross the ball with remarkable accuracy, per WhoScored:
However, per Bild (via Miller), while he wants to leave Stuttgart, he will only move to a club who can offer him European football.
Liverpool are still very much in with a shout of qualifying for the UEFA Europa League next season, but they sit down in ninth place in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Argentinian outlet Infobae (via Goal.com's Daniel Edwards) reported that Liverpool have made contact with River about signing Alario, but Los Millonarios want more than the $8 million (£5.7 million) that is on the table.
Indeed, they are reportedly "determined to hold out for $12 million (£8.5 million)" if they are to sell on the 23-year-old who helped them win the 2015 Copa Libertadores—he scored in the semi-finals and final.
In terms of out-and-out strikers, Liverpool are quite short.
Christian Benteke is a poor fit in Klopp's system, and Daniel Sturridge is a constant fitness concern, but signing Alario could solve that problem as long as Liverpool are prepared to up their current bid.
