Puppy Bowl XII 2016: Lineup of Known Breeds, Photos Before Annual Event

From the entertaining commercials to the tasty appetizers, Super Bowl Sunday offers plenty of avenues for fans to indulge in America's best unofficial holiday regardless if they're interested in the actual football or not.

One of those showings is the annual Puppy Bowl featuring 49 dogs from animal shelters across the country in what Animal Planet describes as an "adoption extravaganza" to find homes for the participating pups.

Here is a look at the day's schedule and a full roster of the canine contingent competing for this year's title of Bissell MVP (Most Valuable Puppy):

The puppies have already descended upon the Bay Area for the event, drawing a sizable crowd at Super Bowl City on the Embarcadero in front of the Port of San Francisco on Thursday, as shown by Jane Tyska of the Oakland Tribune:

While the event aligns nicely with the massive draw of the Super Bowl and is intended for fans of football or not, it's a great spectacle to put these dogs on display to help them find homes.
