WWE Fastlane 2016: What to Expect from Second Edition of PPV
In WWE's continued attempt to make the pay-per-view between Royal Rumble and WrestleMania an interesting one, the company seems to be promising big things for the upcoming Fastlane 2016 show.
In some ways, the Fastlane main event looks more appealing than the expected main bout of WrestleMania 32, where Triple H will surely face Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
The champion will have a night off next month as Reigns battles for the right to advance forward and face Triple H by squaring off against Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar.
So what can we expect from the second edition of Fastlane after its debut last year?
A Reigns Victory Tainted With Controversy
Roman Reigns was once the victim of Bray Wyatt's surprise attacks, but in a bizarre twist of irony, he could benefit from Wyatt interference in his match at Fastlane.
We've seen a few hints toward the WrestleMania card at Royal Rumble thus far but should expect to get some firmer clues at Fastlane.
That will surely involve Brock Lesnar being screwed out of the opportunity to face Triple H at WrestleMania thanks to a textbook interference and beatdown from The Wyatt Family.
That should set up Lesnar vs. Wyatt at the biggest show of the year, while Dean Ambrose could also lose a potential victory at the hands of someone like Chris Jericho.
It would hardly make Reigns look strong, but WWE has to ensure Lesnar is the indomitable force the company builds him up to be and isn't beaten fairly.
The Start of AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens
It would be a bit of a waste to have the first meeting between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens at Fastlane, but if WWE is intent on making this show a big deal, we could see a battle between the two indy heroes here.
The smart option would be to keep teasing a fight between the two right the way through to WrestleMania, perhaps by having Owens cost Styles a victory at Fastlane, which would set up the grudge match perfectly.
That's the best way to keep fans interested most of the time: let them think they're going to get what they want before taking it away from them at the last second.
We need to see plenty of top heel work from Owens in the weeks in and around Fastlane, but things could come to a head at that show to set up what would be an epic WrestleMania match.
The Undertaker's Return?
Considering all the plans for WrestleMania that seem to be getting locked in, there's still no talk about what lies ahead for The Undertaker.
Whether he was scheduled to fight John Cena or not, those plans are now well and truly off the table due to Cena's injury, which rules him out of WrestleMania.
So what's left for Taker to do?
We should get a clue of his plans for the event at Fastlane. WWE has to use the final pay-per-view before the biggest show of the year to firm up concrete ideas for Undertaker's WrestleMania opponent, even if it is someone as uninspiring as Kane.
It could roll the dice and take a chance on someone like Finn Balor, but that's booking Balor a one-way ticket to defeat on his WrestleMania debut.
The confusion surrounding what WWE is going to do with Taker makes Fastlane an incredibly appealing prospect.
