Charlotte vs. Paige: Winner and Reaction from WWE TLC 2015

Mike ChiariDec 13, 2015

Paige earned another crack at the WWE Divas Championship on Sunday night at TLC, but she once again fell short in a losing effort against Charlotte.

WWE captured a photo with Charlotte celebrating the win with her dad, Ric Flair:

WWE and WWE Universe provided some of the top moments from the match:

After the match, Charlotte was with Becky Lynch backstage discussing the win, per WWE:

WrestleZone.com wondered what the result meant for Paige moving forward:

Although the Anti-Diva fell to Charlotte at Survivor Series, she argued that she deserved to vie for the belt one more time since Charlotte's arm was under the ropes when she applied the Figure Eight. WWE obliged, but Paige was still unable to get the job done.

The rivalry between Paige and Charlotte stretches back several months, but they were initially friends when Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks made the leap from NXT to the main roster ahead of SummerSlam.

Things went smoothly for Team PCB for quite some time, but jealousy eventually set in when Charlotte was the first among the group to earn a Divas Championship match. She made the most of it by putting an end to Nikki Bella's record-breaking reign; however, Paige wasn't happy for her stablemate.

She eventually turned on Charlotte and Becky, and she has since made things personal by involving Charlotte's family.

Prior to Survivor Series, Paige referenced Charlotte's dead brother. She then slapped her Hall of Fame father—Ric Flair—on the go-home episode of Raw before TLC, and she was quite proud of it:

In addition to that, Paige attempted to turn Becky against Charlotte, although the champ didn't do herself any favors in that regard.

Charlotte used misdirection to beat Becky in a friendly match by feigning an injury, after which Paige rubbed in the fact that she had previously called Charlotte a cheater because of what happened at Survivor Series:

Despite all of Paige's verbal and physical barbs, Charlotte pressed on in her attempt to prove she is truly genetically engineered to be the top female wrestler in the world.

She was successful in that regard Sunday by beating Paige for the second consecutive pay-per-view in an entertaining match, but her status as Divas champion is far from secure.

There is no shortage of credible opponents to challenge for the title in the near future, with Becky and Sasha appearing to be the likeliest candidates.

That notion lends a great deal of hope to the success of the Divas revolution moving forward, as does the fact that WWE has shown more commitment to building actual storylines among the women in recent weeks.

The angle between Charlotte and Paige has been far from perfect, but there is no question it has been a major step up from WWE's lack of focus on the Divas in recent years.

If the creative team can keep that going with the title scene while perhaps adding another Divas angle of note to the mix as well, then there is reason for optimism heading toward Royal Rumble and eventually WrestleMania 32.
