Warriors Set Record with 16th Straight Win to Open NBA Season

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 25, 2015

The Golden State Warriors set an all-time NBA record with Tuesday's 111-77 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, becoming the first team in league history to win its first 16 games of a season, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Reigning MVP Stephen Curry, in particular, was at the top of his game, making 10 of his 21 field-goal attempts to finish with 24 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals in 30 minutes. Curry, alone, tied the Lakers starting five with 10 field goals made in the game.

Golden State jumped out to a large lead early, in part due to its expert passing, something that held up throughout the contest. As a team, the Warriors—who lead the league in assists per game (29.6)—recorded more assists (32) than field goals made by the Lakers (31).

Just how dominant have the Warriors been this season? After drilling 12 three-pointers against the Lakers on Tuesday, the Warriors have now made 199 this season, while their opponents have managed to hit just 91, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

That's translated to large leads—so much so that the Warriors have actually spent more minutes (167) leading by at least 15 points than they have spent trailing by any margin (149), another stat courtesy of ESPN Stats & Info.

While all the talk will rightfully center on the chase for the Chicago Bulls' 1996-97 record-breaking 72-10 regular-season mark, it seems unlikely that any team in today's modern NBA could conceivably shoot for the record while still maintaining championship aspirations.

However, for the conversation to even be feasibly brought up should be a huge compliment to the 2015-16 iteration of the Golden State Warriors. Their depth, camaraderie and unselfishness make them one of the most well-liked and well-respected teams of this generation.
