Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Baltimore Ravens: Jaguars Grades, Notes and Quotes
In one of the most unbelievable finishes in the 2015 NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Baltimore Ravens 22-20 off a 53-yard field goal made by kicker Jason Myers.
The Jaguars looked to be finished when quarterback Blake Bortles took a snap in the final second and was quickly sacked by Ravens defensive end Elvis Dumervil, but Dumervil grabbed Bortles' facemask, allowing Myers to take the attempt and win the game.
The win improved the Jaguars to 3-6 on the season and a sole game behind the Indianapolis Colts in the battle for the AFC South title. The win essentially kept the season alive, and pulling it out heading into an important Thursday night game against the Tennessee Titans may give this team the boost it needs.
The Jaguars played very well at times, but they obviously still have issues in the secondary despite corner Davon House playing fantastically well today. The Jaguars have shined at times, but there's still work to be done.
However, the Jaguars won today and that means they have more time to improve and possibly correct some recent mistakes. This season has been a ridiculous ride nearly every week, and it looks set to continue.

It was a mixed bag for the Jaguars, and the first and foremost problem was the offense's stagnant play. Bortles didn't do the team any favors today, and he probably should've had one or two more picks other than his one. Luckily, his wide receivers came through for the most part, save for Bryan Walters' end-zone drop.
Running back T.J. Yeldon had a decent day, gaining 61 yards on 18 carries and gashing the Ravens in the second half. As for the offensive line, it performed slightly above average, while tight ends Julius Thomas and Marcedes Lewis continued to struggle.
The defensive line made a big play or two, but was again lackluster. The linebackers weren't that much better, and the secondary was being lit up save for House's two interceptions and general shutdown coverage.
While Myers unbelievably missed a 26-yard attempt, his game-winner lets him and the special teams skate by. Head coach Gus Bradley and his staff did a solid job, but some of the offensive play-calling was suspect at times.
Jaguars Squander Chances Throughout Sunday's Win
2 of 5
The Jaguars drove 77 yards in the second quarter against the Ravens and looked set to take a 10-point lead with a 1st-and-goal from the three. After two consecutive fade throws and then a mediocre run attempt, the Jaguars had to settle for a field goal.
Later, Myers missed a chip-shot from 26 yards, but not before Bryan Walters dropped a touchdown pass. That's at least seven points given up, possibly 10 if you count that drop.
The Jaguars only totaled nine points off of four Ravens turnovers. They failed to execute on offense, and while today may have been some of the most stagnant play, they were still able to pull out the victory.
The Jaguars could have easily won this game by 10 points or more, but a lack of rhythm and finishing on offense almost sunk them for a seventh loss. You can't expect offensive success all the time, but days like today will continue the Jaguars' struggles if they can't correct it.
Jacksonville did just enough to win, and it still took a miracle at the end to allow a victory. If the Jaguars want to win more games down the stretch, offensive incompetence like today's has to be addressed.
Jaguars Defense Forces Turnovers in Second Half to Supply the Offense
3 of 5
While the defense was gashed at times by Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, the three turnovers they forced in the second half were incredible. Two came through House's picks, and the other came from a strip-sack from defensive tackle Abry Jones. That set up the Jaguars offense time and time again.
The offense failed to execute, but the defense did enough to win this game. It played tough against Ravens running back Justin Forsett and didn't allow any huge plays. There was the occasional 20- or 30-yard exception, but nothing back-breaking.
The Ravens did their best to avoid cornerback Aaron Colvin, and once House started making plays it became certain the only thing they could do would be to hit the tight ends and target cornerback Dwayne Gratz, which is what they successfully did.
The only issue is the Jaguars didn't do much to adjust to that new game plan, but they do deserve some credit for forcing that change. Both sides of the ball obviously have improvements to make, but the defense was the better side today.
Gus Bradley Talks Overall Performance
4 of 5
Bradley was quick to admit the Jaguars made some mistakes on Sunday, and he is right to do so. While the Jaguars made some big plays, their inability to consistently execute throughout the game almost cost them the win.
In the post-game press conference, as streamed by Jaguars.com, Bradley commended the team's efforts to keep fighting but said there will be a lot to work on before the Thursday night battle against the Texans.
"There were some mistakes, now," Bradley said. "We had some issues [with] execution, especially on the defensive side."
Bradley acknowledged the offensive struggles, saying, "Their tempo wasn't quite there. We were trying to do some things to try to speed it up...we just didn't feel like we were as efficient and execute like we normally did."
Bradley is a very emotional coach, and you could see it in the press conference. However, looking back and knowing immediately they have plenty of work to do shows his focus on this team, which will hopefully translate to continued results in the coming weeks.
Blake Bortles Explains Last Drive and Overall Offensive Issues
5 of 5
Bortles didn't play especially well on Sunday, but one does have to commend him for consistently looking to make plays and lead all game despite an off performance. His single interception came early, and not turning the ball over late was a step in the right direction.
In his post-game press conference, as streamed by Jaguars.com, Bortles discussed the final drive as well as the overall play of the offense.
"It was one of those deals, you know. Probably threw too many balls inbounds early in that drive," Bortles said. "Probably should've tried to get some to the edge." On the final offensive snap, Bortles said, "Couldn’t really hear anything, got it set, Wiz did a good job of snapping the ball immediately."
The Jaguars were able to get off the play, leading to the facemask penalty and a miracle game-winner. But he recognizes the offense didn't perform up to their standard today.
"It was kind of a lack of execution," Bortles said. "We just didn't execute in the way we had practiced all week. ... We still gotta eliminate turnovers on our end."
The team is still focused despite an unbelievable win, and they know they got away with a win despite their issues. Bortles and the rest of the offense will have to come in on a short week and quickly learn and recover from Sunday's problems.
