Bears head coach John Fox told reporters Langford has a sprained right ankle, confirming Ian Rapoport of NFL Network's original report. Rapoport added the team was originally concerned that Langford had injured his Achilles.
Langford Has Failed to Show Consistency Early in NFL Career
Langford had three carries for 31 yards to go with two catches for 15 yards before coming out of the Week 3 game.
He was thrust into a more prominent role for Chicago last season, after former starter Matt Forte suffered a knee injury in Week 8. The team felt he played well enough down the stretch to warrant becoming a larger part of the offense heading into 2016.
The Michigan State product, who was drafted in the fourth round of last year's draft, has showcased versatility and good speed. He still needs to show more week-to-week consistency to become a reliable starter, but he's got upside.
So far he has struggled in 2016, however, with just 116 rushing yards on 31 carries (3.7 yards per carry) in three games.
Langford should get another chance to put his talent on display now that he's healthy. He hasn't done enough to completely lock down the starting job, however, so he may return to a timeshare situation.
