Kevin Owens vs. Dean Ambrose Would Be WWE's Show-Stealing Feud of the Winter

Aaron BowerOct 29, 2015

After a lean few months in the middle of the card, WWE needs blockbuster feuds to send 2015 out with a bang.

Titles like the Intercontinental Championship and even the tag team titles have become somewhat of an afterthought, and that needs to be corrected to make sure 2016 starts in the correct fashion.

Kevin Owens' reign with the Intercontinental Championship has yet to sparkle, but if WWE finds the right rivalry now heading toward Survivor Series, it could be one that takes him through to the beginning of WrestleMania season.

And despite having a fair few options to choose from, WWE has to ensure it picks the right feud by going for Owens vs. Dean Ambrose. If executed correctly, it would be the blockbuster feud of the winter.

There are lots of reasons why, but above all else, Owens and Ambrose both possess the kind of energy required to execute a top-level feud, and they could certainly make some magical moments happen inside the ring.

The mic work alone would be amazing. Both men can cut superlative promos, as they have shown over the past few months. For Ambrose, you can look back to his work with Seth Rollins as a fine example of that. When Ambrose is given the TV time and the opportunity to showcase his ability to entertain, it's not hard to see it come to the fore.

Owens has the ability to entertain as a heel, and not many like Ambrose can draw crowd reactions as a babyface. Throw them together, and you're likely to see some real sparks fly.

It's not just their ability to talk up a feud that makes this feud so worthwhile. In the ring, they're two of the finest technicians WWE possesses.

Their backgrounds are the same, having both hailed from the independent circuit, and that alone has helped to increase their popularity among the Internet Wrestling Community.

They've had a couple of skirmishes on the independent circuit in the past, but they also had a couple of matches at live events earlier this year, including this one that was caught on YouTube:

You only have to flick through the highlights of that to see how entertaining it was, and that's without any depth to it from a rivalry, for example.

Finding a storyline to get fans hooked won't be hard, either. Owens can play on the fact that Ambrose has no right to go after his title after being nothing more than Roman Reigns' henchman in the past few months, and he's got to earn it.

From there, Ambrose goes out of his way to take Owens down in the way that he did with Rollins last year and this year. He makes unprompted appearances, he shows up from nowhere and makes Owens' life a nightmare.

That's when Ambrose is at his best, when he's unpredictable. It would also help to bring the best out of Owens, the ruthless, angry Owens who takes people out for the sheer fun of it.

All things considered, if WWE invests some significant time into this feud on television, it could be one of the best in recent years. The Intercontinental Championship has felt like a millstone for stars who've held it in recent years, but Owens and Ambrose could really bring the best out of it over the next few months.
