D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution provided details of Coleman's injury:
Coleman Impressive When Healthy
A third-round draft pick, Coleman got his career started on a high note with 80 yards on 20 carries in a Week 1 win against the Philadelphia Eagles. He suffered a fractured rib the following week against the New York Giants, causing him to miss two games.
Devonta Freeman became a breakout star for the Falcons in Coleman's absence, scoring six rushing touchdowns in the two games Coleman missed.
Coleman was able to take center stage in Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings when Freeman sat out with a concussion. The Indiana product responded with his first career 100-yard rushing game in a 20-10 loss.
The Falcons have finally found a competent rushing attack, but they are struggling to keep both of their running backs healthy at the same time. After starting 5-0, Atlanta has been inconsistent on offense and defense.
Injuries, including Coleman's latest setback, have taken some edge off the Atlanta offense. Third-string running back Terron Ward will take some of the open carries with Coleman off the field, but the Falcons will miss the 22-year-old's explosiveness while he is out.
