Tranquill Will Miss Rest of Season

Sunday, Sept. 20

Notre Dame's Director of Football Media Relations Michael Bertsch announced Tranquill's diagnosis.

Yahoo Sports' Dr. Saturday provided video of Tranquill's injury, suffered while chest bumping with a teammate:

Keith Arnold of NBC Sports said Tranquill was spotted on crutches later in the game wearing an immobilizer on his leg.

It's unclear exactly when during the celebration Tranquill suffered the injury, as he appears to be favoring the knee while in the air right before landing.

Tranquill, whom 247 Sports rated as a 4-star prospect out of high school in 2014, appeared in 11 games as a freshman before tearing the ACL in his left knee in a game against Louisville.

Injuries have hit the Fighting Irish hard early in the campaign. Running back Tarean Folston's season ended in the first game against Texas after he suffered a torn MCL; the team then lost quarterback Malik Zaire for the year against Virginia after he broke his ankle.

Head coach Brian Kelly has been able to get his team to win its first two games despite these losses, but eventually depth will come into play for the Fighting Irish in their quest to reach the College Football Playoff.
