Premier Boxing Champions 2015: Fight Card and TV Schedule for September 15

Brian MaziqueSep 13, 2015

Premier Boxing Champions' new Fox Sports 1 series Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays goes into its second round on Tuesday live from the California University of Pennsylvania Convocation Center in California, Pennsylvania.

Up-and-coming welterweight contender Sammy Vasquez (19-0, 13 KOs) will take on Jose Lopez (25-3-1, 15 KOs) in a potentially entertaining midweek clash. On the undercard, talented and undefeated lightweight Omar "Super O" Douglas (14-0, 11 KOs) also puts his unbeaten record on the line against Braulio Santos (12-2, 10 KOs).

This broadcast could be a showcase for future PBC on NBC or PBC on CBS stars, as Vasquez and Douglas have appeal the promotion may want to feature down the line.

Missions to Impress

Vasquez and Douglas can do themselves a favor by scoring impressive stoppage wins. The task will be much tougher for Vasquez, who is facing a rugged opponent in Lopez who has never been stopped.

There's no real question which fighter has the most talent. Vasquez's movement and hand speed should give him a distinct advantage. That said, in the talent-heavy welterweight division, Vasquez needs to do something that separates him from the rest of the 147-pounders.

Former promoter and heavyweight legend Mike Tyson spoke highly of Vasquez but also identified some of the fighter's potential issues. Last year, Tyson told Rick Bruni Jr. of TribLive.com:

"

Listen, if Sammy starts moving his head after he throws combos and going to other angles, I guarantee you he can be world champion. I'd also like to see him study his opponents more and to watch more video on them. If he does that and moves his head more and goes to another area after he throws his great combinations, the sky's the limit.

"

Vasquez has the fair necessary to grab the attention of fight fans. He fights a crowd-pleasing style and looks for the finish when it's available. Adam Abramowitz of Saturday Night Boxing tweeted about Vasquez's simplistic entertainment value:

If Vasquez can use Tuesday's fight as a platform to introduce himself to a prime-time audience, it'll set him up for bigger and better bouts.

Douglas fights in a less popular division, but he has power, which resonates with the fight community. He has a muscular frame, but that doesn't always lead to a powerful puncher. In Douglas' case, however, the muscles translate well to the end of his fists. His 11 knockouts in just 14 bouts proves he can thump.

He has scored back-to-back first-round knockouts. He'll be looking to extend that KO streak against Santos. Neither man has a wealth of experience, but Santos will be trying to steal some of the thunder Douglas has established in his more high-profile career.

In this interview below, Douglas talks about his future and his appreciation for his connection to Premier Boxing Champions:

Santos has been stopped once in his career. Because he's going into a battle with the KO artist Douglas, he had better have his legs under him Tuesday night.
