WWE Universe provided a GIF of Summer's antics:
It was a hard-fought match with lots of big hits from both stars, per WWE Universe:
The History of WWE complimented everyone involved in the feud:
Ziggler and Rusev have been at odds ever since Lana decided to leave The Bulgarian Brute and his tyrannical ways. She ended up by Ziggler's side, which led to Rusev's obsession with making their lives miserable.
The Super Athlete found a new companion in the form of Summer Rae. He had her dress just like Lana in an effort to make Lana jealous, but Ziggler and The Ravishing Russian started to build a strong relationship in their own right, as seen in this photo, courtesy of Dolph's Twitter account:
Cracks began to form in the foundation soon after that, however, as a scandal involving Ziggler and Summer erupted. Summer sneaked into Ziggler's dressing room on an episode of Raw and claimed that he attempted to seduce her.
That led to several dramatic segments, including an appearance on Miz TV. They often devolved into chaos, with a conflicted Lana and Summer engaging in fisticuffs.
Summer admitted to allowing Ziggler to kiss her despite his insistence that nothing of the sort happened, but Rusev was willing to forgive her:
Things then took another interesting turn when Lana injured herself during training. The rivalry seemed to be trending toward a mixed tag match, but her wrist ailment prevented that from happening.
Despite the setback, Lana expressed her desire to return better and more focused than ever before:
With Lana on the shelf, the focus shifted back toward Ziggler's and Rusev's work in the ring. They met at SummerSlam in a contest that ended in a double count-out, but things were more decisive this time around.
Even though The Showoff now has momentum on his side, it seems that this feud will continue over the long haul. The situations involving Summer and Lana have yet to be resolved, which means the feud could carry on for several more pay-per-views.
WWE Universe's view on the angle has seemingly been split, but WWE appears to be committed to building a long-term storyline that hearkens back to the days of the Attitude era.
With that in mind, don't be surprised if Ziggler and Rusev lock horns several more times throughout the fall and winter.
