Moeller Will Not Face Charges, Still Under Suspension
Wednesday, Sept. 23
Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk shared word of the development in the allegations against Moeller.
"It is quite clear an incident of volatile nature took place," prosecutor Jim Walters wrote in his decision, via Vince Grzegorek of Cleveland Scene. "What is less clear is the actions of the two persons involved."
However, despite the lack of charges, the Browns did not reinstate Moeller, saying the suspension remained indefinite and that the franchise would have no further comment, via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal.
Moeller Suspended Indefinitely, Accused of Assault
Tuesday, Sept. 10
ESPN's Adam Schefter passed along a statement from the team on Moeller's suspension:
"Andy was involved in an incident, involving allegations that we take very seriously. We have followed our internal protocol, determining that right now it is best for the team and for Andy to take time away from the organization to focus on his personal matters. We are going to respect the process of investigation on this personal matter and will have no further comment at this time.
"
Police are investigating Moeller for allegedly assaulting a female guest at his home, Pat McManamon of ESPN.com reported on Sept. 8:
"A woman called Berea police over the weekend, alleging Moeller had assaulted her, the sources said. The woman was a guest of Moeller's from Maryland.
By the time police arrived, the woman was unsure about pressing charges.
However, police were required to file a report, which was presented to the city prosecutor. He will determine whether charges will be filed. Because the alleged assault was not of a live-in partner or spouse, it was classified as assault and not domestic assault.
"
McManamon added Moeller was not arrested at the time.
On Sept. 8, Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer reported on the 9-1-1 call, the woman indicated Moeller had hurt her before.
Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal passed along the police report from the incident on Sept. 8:
On Sept. 10, Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 FM Radio in Cleveland passed along a statement from police indicating the investigation into Moeller would continue into next week.
Moeller was on the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff from 2008 through 2013 before joining the Browns. He was suspended two games in 2011 after being found guilty of driving while impaired.
Pro Football Focus highlighted how the Browns offensive line is regarded among the best in the NFL:
Moeller's absence therefore doesn't figure to cause too much damage. Browns assistant George DeLeone will presumably take over Moeller's duties during his ban. DeLeone has more than four decades of coaching experience at the college and NFL levels.
