Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on David De Gea and Denis Cheryshev Rumours
Real Madrid are preparing a final transfer offer to bring Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to the Bernabeu before the end of the transfer window, with both Los Blancos and the player confident the Spanish stopper will return to Madrid in the coming days.
That's according to MailOnline's Adam Crafton, who claims De Gea's agent, Jorge Mendes, is looking for a deal worth approximately £25 million. The Red Devils are still holding out for a £33 million offer, but Real are unwilling to approach that valuation given De Gea's contract runs out in less than a year.
The 24-year-old has been the subject of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer, and he's yet to play a second of football for the Mancunians this season. New signing Sergio Romero has been the starter in goal, and Louis van Gaal has claimed De Gea does not want to play for the club, via Manchester Evening News' James Robson.
As shared by Squawka, there are plenty of fans and pundits who disagree with the way he has carried himself this summer, including Red Devils legend Paul Scholes:
The transfer has become one of the messiest we've seen in years, with the fallout being impressive to say the least. De Gea runs the risk of spending the season before Euro 2016 sitting in the stands, which will greatly hurt his chances of making the Spain national team.
Real said goodbye to club legend Iker Casillas earlier in the summer. Casillas had a poor 2014-15 season and may have left Los Blancos regardless of the De Gea situation, but it's not crazy to assume he'd still be at the Bernabeu if Los Blancos knew for sure De Gea wouldn't come. Instead, they may have to rely on Keylor Navas, who is a great stopper in his own right but not a world-class option.
At this point, the transfer of De Gea has become about more than just money. United have made headlines in the past two weeks for failing to land the likes of Pedro Rodriguez, and it's important they don't lose face even more in the final days of the window, per Crafton:
"United's position is defined by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's desire to appear strong in the transfer market and it will be intriguing to see whether he is capable of maintaining that stance as Madrid crank up the pressure in the coming days.
Woodward's reputation in Spain has already been damaged by United's peculiar pursuit of Pedro, the former Barcelona forward that United tracked for months and who has now ended up at Chelsea.
"
It seems almost ridiculous to suggest a club would be willing to bench a world-class stopper such as De Gea for a full season, but as things stand, it could actually happen. The negotiating process is not over and a solution could still be reached, but both parties will have a lot of work to do in order to figure out this mess.
Denis Cheryshev Won't Comment on Transfer Rumours

Russian winger Denis Cheryshev continues to be linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, but he refused to comment on any of the speculation when he appeared at a recent promotional event, as reported by Marca's Dorleta Cordero.
The 24-year-old spoke in glowing terms of the club's transfer strategy and his team-mates, but as soon as the conversation turned toward his future, he fell silent:
"Speaking during the event, the Russian voiced what it means to him to be at the club and his desire to make his mark under Rafa Benitez: 'It's a privilege to be at Real Madrid. I'm here to help whenever the coach deems fit. We all try to do our bit for the team.'
Cheryshev remained tight-lipped on the rumours linking him with a move to Valencia over the next few days, speaking only about Los Blancos. For example, he repeated several times that he relishes sharing the Bernabeu dressing room with 'the best players in the world.'
"
He's been strongly linked with a move to Valencia, such as by Marca's R. Jimenez, and while he seemed likely to stay in the Spanish capital for this season, the arrival of Mateo Kovacic has complicated things.
The Croatia international isn't direct competition, but he takes up another slot in the squad. And with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Isco and James Rodriguez sitting well ahead of Cheryshev in the pecking order, Los Blancos could decide to move a winger or attacking midfielder to free up space elsewhere.
Cheryshev spent last season on loan with Villarreal and showed plenty of promise, but he doesn't seem ready to contribute on the very highest level for Real. Perhaps another loan move or a transfer with a buyback clause could give him the minutes he needs. If he continues developing, there's no reason it would have to be the end of his Real career.
