Mayweather, Bob Arum on "Mixed Martial Aryans?"

Dorothy WillisSep 15, 2009

Grandma Dee is perplexed. If anyone wants to tell me I have gotten this all wrong, they are more than welcome to do so. Subjects like this are confusing and distasteful to me.

In reading an article late tonight in The Boxing Examiner, by Michael Marley, my generation, the Hula Hoop, saying that the sport will be just as short lived.

I am confounded by this as I have purchased hula hoops recently for my own grandchildren. So what is Mr. Marley talking about?

Actually, he had lost me before he even got to the hula hoops, which was near the end of his diatribe explaining how white hoods and burning crosses were closer to being representative of MMA fans than to the fans of boxing which features Hispanics and blacks as its champions.

How did such an inane comparison come about, you ask?

According to Marley, it was a stroke of genius by Bob Arum a boxing promoter to show the inferiority of MMA compared to boxing prior to Mr. Mayweqather's next boxing match.

Huh? My sport, MMA inferior to boxing? Where did all this hate come from?

When Marley stated that the only women in the crowds at MMA events were white, because the only Hispanic women or black women there were selling hot dogs, I choked on my own spit. Luckily he was not within spitting distance or I would have sent him a very messy message.

The nerve of these men. I lived through an era when boxing was popular, but it is way over and done, as far as I am concerned. MMA is much more to my taste because it offers variety.

How many times can you watch one man hit another without getting bored out of your mind? A sweet science?  Not in this granny's eyes! I would rather see kicking, flying arm bars, brawling and sprawling, on the feet and on the ground, all over the octagon, than ever have to see a boring one dimension sport like boxing ever again.

MMA has the word "Art" in it for a very good reason. I see nothing artistic about boxing, except for the silky, often colorful shorts the pugilists wear.

Someone has not been paying attention to the crowds present at the UFC events either. Many of the fighters' wives, girlfriend, and mothers are in the audience. Thanks to the fighters who love Asian girls, there are many of them represented in the crowds too.

How this can be compared to a Klan rally is beyond my comprehension, when Rashad, Rampage, Jon Bones Jones, Marvin the Beastman Eastman, Cheick Kongo, and Anthony Rumble Johnson are only a few of the superior black talents to grace the cage.

Aha! That was a subject brought up by Mayweather, "You put animals in a cage to fight, not men."

Could he be a closet dogfight fan to say something so stupid? Move over Michael Vick!

My husband, youngest son and grandson all have shaved heads—they are certainly not "skinheads," do not have swastika tattoos or believe in white supremacy.

Talk about bigoted opinions. Bob, Floyd and Michael need to wake up and quit drinking that brand of koolaide.

How anyone could promote such a view of the sport of MMA is simply asinine! Jealousy of the popularity of MMA is one thing, but preaching racial bias by the sport or its fans is extremely ignorant and contrary to the facts in evidence.

So I am incensed after reading such nonsense and trying to clear my head. I don't drink alcohol and even though I am diabetic, I think this calls for a shot of Coke!

To think, I had almost made it through one whole day without one.

Thanks a lot you bigoted idiots!
