Concussion Slowed Down Freeman's Breakout Season
The Falcons selected Freeman in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL draft, and he was immediately viewed as a sleeper to seize the starting job from Steven Jackson. That didn't happen, but Freeman has undoubtedly lived up to his promise in 2015.
With rookie Tevin Coleman ailing early in the season, Freeman took hold of the starting job and never looked back, playing at an All-Pro level in the Atlanta backfield.
Per ESPN Stats & Info, Freeman's nose for the end zone has been historically great, especially over the season's first month-and-a-half:
ESPN's Field Yates offered his take on why Freeman has so quickly developed into one of the NFL's premier running backs:
For as good as Freeman is, though, injuries have proved to be a problem during the early portion of his professional career. He was banged up at various points as a rookie despite playing in all 16 games, and a hamstring issue nagged him during the preseason leading up to the 2015 campaign.
With Freeman on the mend, the door was open for Coleman to receive the bulk of the touches against the Vikings in Week 12. He finished with 110 rushing yards on 18 carries, though he lost a costly fumble.
Falcons fans and fantasy owners alike are happy to see the return of the talented rusher to Atlanta's lineup.
