Tottenham Not Only Club Seeking N'Jie

Friday, Aug. 14

"N'Jie to Tottenham is not a done deal. We have another offer from a bigger English club that has complicated things a bit," said Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, per OL News.

Matt Spiro relayed on Aug. 12 that Tottenham nearly had a deal done, "Lyon accept bid of €14 million (+€3 million in add-ons) from Tottenham for striker Clinton N'Jie. Player set for talks in London this week (L'Equipe)."

As David Hytner of the Guardian reported on Tuesday, Spurs are in need of more striking options this summer as they plan to sell the disappointing Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, leaving Harry Kane to lead the line alone until reinforcements can be brought in.

N'Jie enjoyed a strong year with Lyon and so could prove a shrewd long-term acquisition for the Lilywhites.

The 21-year-old scored seven goals and assisted seven in the league last season, and the Cameroon international was pleased with his performances after making the step up from Lyon's reserves.

Per Oluwashina Okeleji of BBC Sport on May 24, he said: "It's always a pleasure to score goals and make assists because that's what defines my game. A truly breakthrough season for me and I am really delighted how it's turned out."

ScoutNationHD provide the lowdown on the striker, as well as sharing some of his highlights from last season:

Bleacher Report's own Andy Brassell is impressed with N'Jie. On Aug. 6, he tweeted: "No AL [Alexandre Lacazette] of course, but I like him a lot (though divides opinion in France). Blistering pace, good awareness to set up others."

Squawka illustrated some areas of improvement for the youngster N'Jie won just 34 percent of his duels in Ligue 1 last season, while the striker could also do with adding a more clinical finish to his game after scoring seven league goals from 32 shots on target.

However, the forward's pace and ability to create for others can provide Spurs a different dimension in attack, while Kane would thrive off N'Jie's impressive service.

Though he has only just completed his first full season as a regular at the Stade de Gerland, Spurs' need for a striker will ensure they go all out to secure his signature, so N'Jie may well be tempted to switch France for England this summer.
