Niners Release Smith After Arrest
Friday, Aug. 7
Matt Keller of ABC 7 provided a look at the booking information on Twitter:
The Santa Clara Police Department released full details of the incident:
"On Thursday, August 6, 2015, at about 8:46 PM., Santa Clara Officers were dispatched to Moreland Way to investigate a disturbance involving a collision. On arrival, officers learned Aldon Smith was parking his vehicle and collided with a parked vehicle. After the collision, Smith exited his vehicle and caused additional damage to the parked vehicle with his car door.
"
Smith then left the area not reporting the collision or leaving his identifying information at the scene. He later returned to the parking area where he was contacted by officers. Smith displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Officers administered a field sobriety test to Smith.
Smith posted bail on Friday, and apologized for the arrest, via KTVU in San Jose:

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report reported, per Smith's agent Doug Hendrickson, amid rumors that the incident involved Colin Kaepernick, that the "info out there is absurd" about Kaepernick's car.
He was apparently succeeding in winning over the organization, as 49ers general manager Trent Baalke expressed a desire to re-sign him before next offseason, when he becomes a free agent, according to ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez: "He's in his contract year. He's poised to have a very good year. We expect him to have a very good year. I think he expects himself to have a very good year. We're going to work hard to make sure that he remains here."
Per ESPN's Field Yates, Smith also recently collected a sizable roster bonus, which makes this situation even more disappointing for the Niners organization:
Smith has 44 career sacks in just 50 games, and 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley believes he is an elite player at his position, according to the 49ers' official Twitter account:
Smith has proven that to be true when on the field, but after multiple issues—including his suspension last season and an arrest at an airport—he is quickly becoming a major distraction.
From San Francisco's perspective, there couldn't be a worse time for Smith's playing status to be in jeopardy. Linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retired earlier in the offseason, while Dan Skuta signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Niners do have a quality pass-rusher on one side in Ahmad Brooks, but if Smith has to miss time due to his current situation, then a youngster like Corey Lemonier or Eli Harold will have to step up.
San Francisco has a great track record of developing quality defensive players, but the defense will be far less dangerous if some type of suspension or discipline is forthcoming for Smith.
