Red Bryant to Bills: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

The Buffalo Bills' defensive line just got a lot larger. The team announced Wednesday it signed defensive end Red Bryant to a contract.  

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reported the deal is for one year, $950,000 with a $80,000 signing bonus and up to $100,000 in playing time incentives.

Bryant signed a four-year, $19 million deal last offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He lasted only one year in Florida, though, and he was released after the 2014 season. 

The 6'5", 326-pound Bryant recorded one sack and 23 tackles last season. While the numbers seem low, it was not a dip in production. In seven seasons in the NFL, Bryant has 4.5 career sacks and 147 tackles. 

According to Mike DiRocco of ESPN.com, his release came about because of monetary reasons. Bryant was due to make $3.225 million next season, and his removal from the roster saved the Jaguars $4.5 million in cap space.

Drafted in the fourth round in 2008 by the Seattle Seahawks, Bryant spent the first six years of his career there and was part of Seattle's Super Bowl-winning team in 2013. At 31 years old, he will likely move to the interior line, where his big body can be used to clog the opposition's running game.
