Lakers-Spurs: Los Angeles Gets It Done with Ease at Home

Jason OMay 23, 2008

The Lakers never trailed the entire game, and demolished the Spurs 101-71 on Friday in Game Two at Staples Center.

Kobe didn't wait until half time to start scoring, instead he contributed throughout the whole game with 22 points on 10-17, five rebounds and five assists.

Pau Gasol struggled from the field and was in foul trouble early yet still managed 10 points and seven rebounds.

But the man of the night for the Lakers was Lamar Odom.

He didn't play well in Game One, shooting just 3-12 and only scoring eight points. He needed to play better and he did just that. Odom filled the stat sheet with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.

He and Fisher needed to get Los Angeles off to a good start in Game Two, and they did just that. Odom and Fisher combined for 31 points going 11-15 after they had just 12 points while going 4-21 in Game One.

The Spurs shot a dismal 34.5 percent from the field with only two Spurs players making it to double figures. Starting the game on the bench didn't help Manu Ginobili, who like Robert Horry, couldn't find any rhythm on offense.

The game was tied at 37 before the Lakers went on a surge and scored the last nine points of the first half. Another 20-10 run towards the end of the third quarter opened up 74-57 lead for the Lakers going into the fourth.

The Spurs would continue to shoot poorly in the fourth, being outscored by the Laker's second unit, 27-14.

Lakers forward Trevor Ariza made his comeback, getting six minutes in the final quarter and hitting his one and only shot. His return will make it even more difficult for the Spurs, as he is a good defender who will most likely guard Manu Ginobili.

Jordan Farmar played his best game of the playoffs scoring 14 of the bench from 5-7 shooting. He had been shooting poorly in recent games, but that could all change after todays confidence building performance.

The series goes back to San Antonio for games three and four. The Spurs will be telling themselves they have to win both these home games and win them well to take momentum back to LA for Game Five.

If the Lakers can pick up a game in San Antonio, it will be to hard for the Spurs to come back from 3-1 down and the series could end at Game Five.
