The first weekend of the College Football Season started with the match-up of two top 20 teams in Boise, Idaho.  The WAC beat the PAC-10 in a lack luster game.  Oregon's LaGarrette Blount nullified the opening handshake with a post-game meltdown that included a YouTube friendly punch.

Oregon coach Chip Kelly made the right choice by suspending his best running back for the rest of the season.

The lesson here is if you are going to sucker punch anyone don't let ESPN camera's catch you doing it.

That was not the biggest story of the weekend, which happened in Dallas, Texas.

Did you see how BIG that scoreboard is?

On the tiny field below that enormous scoreboard, Sam Bradford was knocked out of the game late in the second quarter.  Coach Bob Stoops plug in the back up quarterback Laundry Jones.

Brian Reynolds led the Oklahoma defense in the second half struggle with BYU.  The cougers did pull off the upset when the gravity from the scoreboard knock Tress Way's last minute field goal wide.

What did OU expect?  They were in Texas.

Here is one flaw of the BCS; A BYU loss would have knock them out of a possible BCS birth yet the Oklahoma lost does not knock them out of the BCS contention.  The Sooners might not be in the National Title hunt when Sam Bradford gets back, but they can still be a BCS team.

My top two teams in my BCS preview both had big wins.  Florida is the best team in the country and USC is No. 2.

Here are my conference power ranking after week one:

1. SEC

2. BIG 12

3. BIG 10

4. PAC 10

5. Mountain West

6. BIG East

Here is another flaw in the BCS:

The ACC gets an automatic birth whereas The Mountain West which is a better conference than the ACC is still relegated to BCS buster.

There is still a Monday night game to be played.  Remember when the Florida State/Miami game was the biggest game of the year?  Well, they both went to the ACC and they both became, as per the conference they're in, average football teams.  The biggest game of the year now is Texas vs Oklahoma.  Here's hopping Sam Bradford is back for that game.

Week Two Preview:

USC goes to Ohio State in a National Title playoff game for the Buckeyes and a chance for respect for the Big 10.  The Notre Dame/Michigan game actually means something this year.  If you ask Lou Holtz this game might even have National Title implications, but no one asked Lou Holtz.
