Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger's Top Targets Revealed in Latest Rumours

Tom SunderlandJun 12, 2015

Arsenal will not be making a move for Liverpool contract rebel Raheem Sterling this summer as long as his £50 million valuation remains, but a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Yohan Cabaye looks far more likely.

James Olley of the London Evening Standard explains the Gunners won't give in to Liverpool's demands after Manchester City saw a bid worth £30 million rejected in midweek. Olley writes:

"

However, with the player's representative adamant he will not sign an extension, Liverpool know they must sell this summer to maximise Sterling's market value, which they believe to be £50m.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of Sterling's and was keen on signing him when he left Queens Park Rangers for Merseyside in 2010.

Sterling rejected a new £100,000-a-week contract earlier this season, and it's suggested the Reds may be forced to sell their starlet this summer in order to make the most of his sale.

One thing Arsenal do have running in their favour is that former QPR prodigy Sterling would favour a move back to England's capital, according to David Anderson of the Mirror:

Olley does go on to report Brendan Rodgers' interest in Arsenal's Theo Walcott, touting a potential player-plus-cash deal as something that could ease the Gunners' burden of a straight-money deal.

Sterling's current deal has two years remaining, but with it looking increasingly likely the attacker won't pen an extension, Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe has examined his potential destinations:

Manchester City's immediate interest in cutting a deal for Sterling's signature has placed pressure on his other suitors to act fast should they wish to contend.

What's more, Anderson adds the Citizens are already preparing an improved offer of £40 million and are set to return to Liverpool in the coming days:

Should that bid materialise, Arsene Wenger may find the riches of the Etihad giants simply too great to contend with as City bare their teeth in the market once again.

Cabaye In The Hunt For Premier League Comeback

Former Newcastle United captain Yohan Cabaye is actively chasing an exit from Paris Saint-Germain this summer as he looks to rebuild his international hopes in the build-up to Euro 2016.

Cabaye has fallen down the pecking order under Laurent Blanc and spoke to French newspaper L'Equipe (via Charles Perrin of the Express) this week regarding a potential Premier League return:

"

I know that if I stay I could do everything, but nothing would change. I had a talk with Laurent Blanc after the win over Lille. For him, the player in my place is better than me - there you go! It's his opinion, not a problem. It's clear [I will have to leave before Euro 2016]. I know this. At the club, they know it too. It will be important to make the best choice possible.

I was criticised when I went to Newcastle. Supposedly I didn't want to play the Champions League with Lille but I played in Euro 2012 and the 2014 World Cup. I'm not worried. Sometimes it's better to go backward in order to go forward. I enjoyed myself in England, in a league that works for me.

Today, I am at PSG. Certainly, I'd like it to have happened differently, the club too, but that's reality. If I had the chance to return to England, I hope to get it done ... but there could be other destinations.

"

Perrin links Arsenal and Crystal Palace as two of the teams interested in Cabaye, the Gunners having long held associations with the playmaker while Alan Pardew mentored him during their time together at St. James' Park.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson details precisely where the player currently sits in the PSG hierarchy and how a summer sale could make for some extremely valuable business on their part:

During his two-and-a-half years with the Magpies, Cabaye rose to become one of the Premier League's most revered central midfielders, but the past 18 months have seen him suffer in terms of first-team prominence.

Ligue 1 Show presenter Matt Spiro illustrates how positive it would be for the English top flight as a brand if a player of Cabaye's quality were to sign for Crystal Palace:

The France international would assuredly see his thirst for first-team football quenched at Selhurst Park, but one might question whether the south Londoners meet the 29-year-old's trophy aspirations.

With Johnson suggesting Cabaye could be signed for as little as €10 million, his is a prospect Wenger may not be able to ignore, especially with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini diminishing among his ranks.
