Haeger continues to guide the Gators to glory, this time with her bat.
A rare two-way phenom, the senior entered the World Series with a 1.156 OPS and 1.24 ERA. ESPN Stats & Info placed her incredible career alongside baseball's greatest legend:
On Monday night, Haeger clobbered another home run, the 71st of her career, 19th of the year and fourth in the last five games. NCAA Softball captured the blast:
Even Florida head coach Tim Walton was initially unsure of her simultaneously excelling at both facets. He warned her of the challenge ahead from the start, per espnW.com's Graham Hays:
"I told her in the recruiting process, 'It's hard to be a pitcher and a hitter at this level. You're going to have to dedicate yourself.' We've seen some good ones. Nancy Evans at Arizona comes to my mind. Jennie Finch at Arizona comes to my mind. Ally Carda at UCLA comes to my mind, some good two-way players. It's really difficult. I don't know that [eras can be compared], but I know it's probably going to be very difficult now and it was very difficult in the old days, too.
"
Along with her slugging, she started each of Florida's last seven games before Aleshia Ocasio gave her a breather in the first matchup against Michigan. Hardly a downgrade, the freshman limited Michigan's boisterous offense to two runs over six innings, raising her ERA to 2.01.
Throw in Delanie Gourley, who locked down the tightly contested save, and the Gators have a trio of aces to choose from for Tuesday's potential championship-clinching bout. With Haeger having appeared in 39 of their 65 games, look for her to pull double-duty.
The 3-2 defeat marked Michigan's first loss since April 3, snapping a 28-game winning streak. On their path to the championship, the Wolverines compiled 76 runs through their eight postseason bouts before Ocasio quieted their bats.

Over that same stretch, Florida yielded just four runs. Pitching won out on Monday night, but Haylie Wagner yanked a potential game-tying three-run homer slightly foul during the sixth-inning rally. The matchup easily could have swung either way.
Florida escaped with a close call, stranding runners during the final two frames. Facing an opponent more than capable of rattling off two wins, it'll need Haeger to produce and prevent runs on Tuesday night.
