Caitlyn Jenner Makes Debut on July Cover of Vanity Fair

Caitlyn Jenner is ready to reintroduce herself to the world.

Jenner, a former Olympic athlete who was previously known as Bruce, is on the cover of this month's Vanity Fair magazine, where she posed as a woman and revealed her new name for the first time.  

"I'm so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self," Jenner tweeted. "Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can't wait for you to get to know her/me."

The magazine features a photo spread by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz and author Buzz Bissinger, who chronicled Jenner's journey in making the transition. Jenner revealed she was undergoing a gender transition in an interview with Diane Sawyer in April. She says she cross-dressed for many years while still publicly presenting as a man, something she says she could no longer do.

“If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life,’” Jenner told Bissinger. 

At the time of her interview with Sawyer, Jenner was still going by Bruce and using male pronouns. The Vanity Fair spread completes her public transition to living life as a woman, a process that has played itself out both on reality television and behind the scenes.

Jenner is one of the most decorated Olympic athletes in U.S. history, earning the 1976 gold medal in the decathlon. At the time, she was considered one of the most famous athletes in the country. Writer Jim Miller reported the ESPYs will honor her with the Arthur Ashe award for courage at this year's event. 

Jenner is best known in recent years for being a cast member on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, an E! reality series that follows the family. She and her wife Kris were officially divorced earlier this year.

The Vanity Fair issue featuring the full article is available digitally now and will hit newsstands June 9. Her docuseries capturing her transition will begin airing in July.
