Khan (31-3, 19 KO) looked to use his huge speed advantage in the early rounds by countering Algieri, who, under the tutelage of new trainer John David Jackson, seemed determined to erase the memory of his lopsided loss to Manny Pacquiao last November.

Algieri (20-2, 8 KO) was the aggressor throughout the fight, and he had moments of success in the first half, while Khan remained somewhat tentative and content to move around the ring and dominate from the outside.

Many among the ringside media saw an even or close-to-even fight at the midway point, but it was Khan who took over down the stretch as Algieri tired when attempting to put together the pieces in a fight he hopes will lead him to bigger and better things later in the year.

Khan minced no words in his post-fight interview, calling out pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.

In the co-feature, Javier Fortuna outfought Bryan Vasquez in an entertaining scrap to win a unanimous decision and the vacant WBA Junior Lightweight Championship.

Scores were 117-111, 117-111 and 116-112, all for Fortuna.

Bleacher Report scored the bout 116-112 for Fortuna.

Fortuna (28-0-1, 20 KO) made use of his movement and power to control the pace of the fight and force Vasquez to expend a ton of energy chasing without much return on his investment.

Many of the rounds were close and competitive, but Fortuna got the better of the action in the majority. He was the fresher fighter down the stretch and pulled away late in a bout that saw scintillating exchanges punctuate nearly every round.

On the undercard, Brooklyn’s own Heather “The Heat” Hardy remained undefeated with a tough split-decision win over Noemi Bosques.

Scores were 77-75, 79-73 and 75-77 for Hardy.

Hardy (13-0, 2 KO) demonstrated her trademark toughness and crowd-pleasing style before her hometown fans, outworking Bosques (8-3-2) over eight rounds to remain on the path toward a world-title opportunity in the featherweight division.
