Rozsival Underwent Surgery on Fractured Ankle
Tuesday, May 12
The Blackhawks announced that Rozsival underwent successful surgery on his fractured left ankle.
The team announced on May 8 that Rozsival will be out for the rest of the season with the injury.
"Michal Rozsival suffered a fractured left ankle during the second period of last night's game. He will require surgery to repair it. He is not expected to return to full hockey activity until next season."
As seen at the 1:08 mark of this NHL.com video, the veteran blueliner twisted his ankle severely, which forced him out of the contest (Warning: Footage may be disturbing to some):
It is an unfortunate situation since the 36-year-old rearguard was starting to play his best hockey of the season, according to Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times:
The Czech Republic native has played in all 10 playoff games for Chicago, but if he is unable to go in the Western Conference Final and beyond, then 24-year-old David Rundblad may have to step in.
Chicago certainly has enough talent and depth to go all the way and win the Stanley Cup without Rozsival, but being without his steady presence will undoubtedly be a detriment.
