Bob Myers Wins NBA's 2014-15 Executive of the Year Award
After assembling a team that went an impressive 67-15 during the regular season, Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers has been named the 2014-15 NBA Executive of the Year.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports was the first to report that the former UCLA standout had achieved the honor:
Myers beat out some heavy competition to win the award, including Cleveland Cavaliers GM David Griffin, per Bleacher Report's Howard Beck:
While stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were already in place when Myers took over as Warriors general manager in 2012, he has made some big additions since then. That includes the likes of Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes and Andre Iguodala, among others. He also hired Steve Kerr as head coach this past offseason.
Although, as Dan Feldman of ProBasketballTalk.com suggests, perhaps it was his lack of moves that won him the award:
"Warriors general manager Bob Myers didn’t do much this year.
Which is why he won the NBA’s 2015 Executive of the Year.
His most noteworthy decision of the year was not trading Klay Thompson for Kevin Love, and Golden State mostly stuck with a roster built in previous seasons.
"
According to KNBR, Warriors owner Joe Lacob believes Myers was one of those responsible for leading Golden State to the NBA's best record:
Of note in the voting was Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer, who is not his team's general manager. Ken Berger of CBS Sports reported one reason behind the decision to vote for Budenholzer:
Executive of the Year is a major honor, but there is no question that Myers is focused on closing the season out and winning a championship, as the Warriors await the start of their second-round series with the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday.
Myers has molded a deep, talented team that is capable of capturing the title, and it's clear that his fellow league executives are cognizant of that.
