3 Summer Transfer Targets That Would Suit Arsene Wenger's Arsenal Style
With Chelsea now on the verge of their official coronation as Premier League champions, the thoughts of Arsenal fans are inevitably turning toward next season. Arsene Wenger is probably no different: Although he still has an FA Cup final to come, he will already be plotting how to supersede Jose Mourinho’s men next season.
Arsenal’s summer transfer activity will be vital to their chances of challenging for the Premier League. There aren’t too many gaping gaps in the Gunners’ lineup, as they currently have their most complete squad for several years. However, they may still need an extra dose of quality to lift them above their London rivals.

A new goalkeeper would be a great start. David Ospina has performed admirably since supplanting Wojciech Szczesny in the team, but there’s no suggestion yet that he’s ready to match David Seaman and Jens Lehmann as a Premier League-winning keeper.

According to Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mirror, Petr Cech is a target for Arsenal. If Wenger can convince Mourinho to allow the Czech international to join a competitor, he would be a superb signing for Arsenal. Cech has something no one else at Arsenal can offer: knowledge of what it takes to win the Premier League. That experience could prove invaluable. He would instantly become a leader in the dressing room and bring buckets of authority and ability to the goalkeeping position.
Arsenal also need someone to offer competition and cover for Francis Coquelin at holding midfield. The name mentioned most frequently is Morgan Schneiderlin, with reports via The Independent that Arsenal have held a long-standing interest in the French international.

It’s plain to see why: Alongside Victor Wanyama, Schneiderlin has formed one of the most effective and imposing midfields in the Premier League. He’d be a superb long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta, as he has both the physicality required to win the ball and the technical gifts to effectively distribute it. Coquelin has made the holding midfield role his own, but a rival for his position would do no harm.
Arsenal’s game is primarily about fluid attacking, and it’s clear that Raheem Sterling would be a great fit for their free-flowing style. According to John Cross of the Daily Mirror, Sterling’s contract talks have reached an impasse, and the Gunners are eager to take advantage of the stand-off to lure him to London.

It’s already apparent where he’d slot in to the team. Currently, Aaron Ramsey is filling in on the right-hand side of midfield. That’s not a viable option in the long term, but Sterling has the pace, skill and creativity to be a huge success in that role.
With those signings, Arsenal would be credible contenders for the Premier League once again. They would jell easily into the team, strengthening the depth and options at Wenger's disposal at the same time. These three additions would not only suit Arsenal's style, they'd enhance it.
