Samir Nasri to Move to Arsenal Today?

Shyam ParthasarathiMay 20, 2008

Arsenal fans must've heard of this story in various websites. But, L'Equipe, a French newspaper, reports that Samir Nasri could very well seal his deal at Arsenal today.

Nasri, who is 20 years old, can play anywhere in the midfield and is a superb dribbler of the ball. He has helped Marseille's cause to enter into the UEFA Champions League next season.

In many ways, he would be the typical "Wenger signing," but in one significant way he isn't—he could cost 13.5 million pounds (which is his release clause). Rumours point to the fact that he could move for anywhere around that figure (naturally being lesser than that).

Nasri has been dubbed the "new Zidane." But in my opinion he's nothing like Zizou. However, he's a good player and will be a fantastic signing for Arsenal.

In other news, Arsenal have handed a trial to Accra Hearts of Oak teenager Tawrick Jibril. He's supposed to be a strong, athletic midfield general—and is only sixteen years old.

Arsenal have also completed the signing of Spanish centre-back, Ignasi Miquel from UE Cornella. The seventeen-year-old, six-foot-plus centre-back is one for the future, without a doubt. He will link up with the club shortly. There is no official confirmation from the official website, but we rarely get one when it comes to the signing of youngsters.

The link above contains pictures of the representatives of UE Cornella with Arsenal players and director, Ken Friar. (The text is in Spanish, but self-explanatory!)

With Wenger signing Nasri, or close to the completing the signing, rumours of Aquilani's arrival could very well stop. I don't think Aquilani is going to replace Flamini as he is far too attacking for that role.

Another young signing Arsenal are looking to complete is that of Francis Coquelin. He's another midfielder who will link up with the Under-18s next year. He's a France Under-17 International who turned seventeen a couple of months ago.

If that wasn't enough, the Gunners have also signed a Turkish youngster, in the form of Oguzhan Özyakup. He is a creative midfielder and a Dutch Under-17 international. Arsenal have apparently beaten off interest from the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan to clinch his signature.

Finally, the club is also close to deciding the fate of trialist Nikos Karelis, the Greek forward who featured in the Atalanta Under-17s tournament which we won. He impressed in that tournament, but has been left waiting by the club for information about his signature.

As I said before, all the confirmations for the above signings will be made at Arsenal's official website as and when they're completed. The young players' signings are rarely added into the news items, so you guys can check their names out in the squad list as-and-when that list is updated for the next season.
