Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Post-Fight Press Conference: Live Updates and Reaction
Floyd Mayweather Jr. solidified his legacy with a dominant unanimous-decision win over longtime rival Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
But the drama didn't end there.
At the post-fight press conference, Pacquiao's team, led by trainer Freddie Roach and promoter Bob Arum, claimed that the Pac Man entered the fight with a tear in his right shoulder that limited his offense.
They claim that they submitted a report to the Nevada State Athletic Commission in the days before the fight detailing the injury and requesting that Pacquiao receive an injection to mitigate the pain. That request was denied, and the fighter felt his performance was compromised as a result.
As the press conference was wrapping up, NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar took the mic and disputed all of Arum's claims, telling the assembled media that the commission wasn't aware of the Pacquiao injury until just hours before the fight.
That wasn't the only drama produce by the after-fight festivities.
Mayweather, fresh off the most satisfying win of his career, announced that he would be vacating his welterweight and junior welterweight championships in order to give young fighters a chance at winning them.
He refused to discuss a potential opponent for September, which he maintains will be his last fight, and repeatedly asked that all fans and media who had criticized him for not facing Pacquiao change their tune now that he's won.
It was an interesting end to a historic night for boxing to say the very least.
