
Philip Rivers Trade Rumors: Latest News and Speculation on Chargers QB
Since talk of the San Diego Chargers potentially relocating to Los Angeles has surfaced, Philip Rivers told U-T San Diego's Kevin Acee he would wait to sign a new contract and that the uncertainty surrounding the team's future contributed to the decision (h/t SI.com).
However, just hours before the draft, the Chargers informed Rivers he won't be traded. On May 21, it was reported the team is looking to sign Rivers to an extension that keeps him with the franchise until the end of his career.

Rivers Says Ending Career with Chargers 'Would be Awesome'

Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego reported Rivers said that "there is nothing new to report" regarding his contract and that it would be "awesome" to end his career in San Diego.
Leading up to the NFL draft, Rivers' future with the Chargers was in doubt, but on May 21, the team said it is "optimistic" it will be able to reach a long-term agreement with the QB, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Rapoport added:
Rivers Discusses Contract, Melvin Gordon

Acee reported from Rivers on his ongoing talks with the Chargers and the addition of Melvin Gordon to the San Diego backfield:
""All I can say at this point regarding an extension is I'm willing to listen to anything," he said in regard to his contract status. "I'm also willing to play it out. I'm just fired up to be the Chargers QB in 2015."
"I watched Melvin Gordon on many Saturday night highlights," Rivers said. "... It's exciting. We have a great group of backs. We are at our best when 50-50 run/pass. This group gives us a great chance to be that."
Asked Friday what might have changed between March, when he said he was content to play out his contract before entertaining the possibility of an extension, and now, he explained, "A lot of moving parts and lots of things to think about. Location, family, team, etcetera."

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco commented on the recent rumors surrounding Rivers' future with the team.
"Philip is our quarterback. It’s our plan and intent he is our quarterback well into the future," he said, per the team's Twitter account. "The plan is for him to be here 'a long, long, long time,'" he added.
Gehlken and Rapoport noted Telesco's thoughts on Rivers as the franchise quarterback while also looking at QBs in the draft:
