UCLA Upsets SMU After Controversial Goaltending Call in Final Minute
The UCLA Bruins pulled off a 60-59 victory over the SMU Mustangs in the 2015 NCAA tournament's round of 64 on Thursday, but it didn't come without controversy.
After forcing a late turnover, UCLA had a chance to either tie the game with a two-pointer or take the lead with a three. Bruins guard Bryce Alford opted for a desperation three-pointer attempt but came up short.
However, the referees called SMU center Yanick Moreira for goaltending, giving UCLA three points and the lead. The Mustangs were unable to answer with a go-ahead shot of their own.
Moreira took responsibility for the loss after the game:
"I would like to apologize for all the SMU fans as senior I shouldn't make those type of mistake.. I'm really sorry

The senior also responded to a Kevin Durant tweet following the loss:
"These guys don't deserve it . It really hurts . All those mile run in the summer all those 2 a day to end my college career like this

"“@KDTrey5: Yep that was a goaltend.” You right ref thank you for end my college career pic.twitter.com/nhrrON0DQM

UCLA, a No. 11 seed, will play No. 14 seed UAB in the round of 32 on Saturday.
