Evander Holyfield to Fight Mitt Romney for Charity Event

Scott PolacekMar 16, 2015

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney may have lost in the race to be president, but he has a chance to redeem himself in the boxing ring.

Yep, you read that right—a boxing ring.

Nick Schwartz of USA Today reported Monday that Romney will fight former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield on May 15 in Salt Lake City. The bout will take place for CharityVision, which helps people with sight impairment.

Romney commented on what can only be described as an amusing pairing, via Paul Rolly of The Salt Lake Tribune: "It will either be a very short fight, or I will be knocked unconscious. It won't be much of a fight. We'll both suit up and get in the ring and spar around a little bit."

The guess here is that Holyfield, who beat Mike Tyson and George Foreman during his impressive career, takes it a bit easy on the former presidential candidate. Otherwise, Romney could be in some serious trouble.

As long as politicians are entering the ring, blogger Rebkah Howard would like to see another matchup:

For now, the boxing (and political) world will have to settle for a bout between Romney and Holyfield. I bet you didn’t expect to read that sentence a few years after watching Romney debate with President Obama in front of the nation.
