Inside the Paint: Colangelo Shows He's the Zen Master of Basketball Execs

Bleacher ReportAug 18, 2009

Bryan Colangelo, in the words of one Raptors supporter, is "the man". He's truly the best thing to have happened to the Toronto Raptors ... since their entry into the league.

He just completed another trade, being able to ship off two expendable players in Carlos Deflino and Roko Ukic for athletic big man Amir Johnson and Sonny Weems. Both players are expected to be included in their new team's starting lineups this Fall.

What is even more impressive about Colangelo is the amount of change that has transpired with the Raptors in the past two months. At least 10 new players will come into training camp, therefore giving the Raptors a completely remodeled look.

It is shaping up to be another exciting season for the Raptors faithful, and many of them would have good reason to be thrilled at the changes that team's management have undertaken.

Of course, there's still the issue of whether the new coaching staff, led by Jay Triano, can mold this new core of players into a cohesive squad, that can compete night in and night out.

The Raptors now look more like a team capable of at least competing for fifth or even fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Chris Bosh, Jose Calderon, and Andrea Bargnani will suddenly find themselves abound with an impressive group of talented players who can offer support, something that hasn't been seen in Toronto for quite sometime.

Whatever transpires with Toronto from here onto training camp, observers would surely agree that Colangelo has stuck to his word and made the moves necessary to change the culture and makeup of the team.
