5-Star LB Ben Davis Says Notre Dame 'In the Mix' After Irish Extend Offer
Notre Dame identified a new top-tier target Wednesday, extending a scholarship offer to Alabama linebacker Ben Davis.
The Gordo High School standout quickly reciprocated interest. Davis, a 6'4", 230-pound playmaker, was thrilled to add the Fighting Irish to his collection of collegiate possibilities.
"Notre Dame is a great school," he told Bleacher Report. "They have a great history and tradition. They've been to the national championship recently and I'm excited to be able to receive the offer."
The Irish are among more than 20 programs in pursuit of the 5-star prospect. He unveiled a top-seven list last week, featuring LSU, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and USC.
Despite naming favorites, Davis left the door open for other options.
Notre Dame instantly becomes a contender for the coveted defender. He shared this latest offer "definitely" makes an impact on his list of potential landing spots.
"I would put them right there in the mix," Davis said.

The All-American candidate also expressed strong interest in spending time in South Bend.
"I can't wait to get up to visit the campus and the coaching staff," he said.
Davis, rated fourth nationally among outside linebackers and 25th overall in 247Sports' composite rankings, presents plenty of options for whichever defensive coordinator ultimately lands him at the next level.
He's an every-down player who excels in pass coverage and possesses enough size to wreak havoc in the trenches. That versatility makes Davis a candidate to fill multiple roles in the linebacker corps.
His father, Wayne Davis, is the all-time tackles leader at Alabama.
Despite natural allegiances to the Crimson Tide, he's not limiting himself to a future in nearby Tuscaloosa. Notre Dame in now officially among programs aiming to pry him away from home.
Davis plans to visit Auburn this weekend, though no other campus trips are currently set.
He hopes to announce a commitment prior to his senior season, but admits the process could extend further toward national signing day.
