Gabriel Paulista Injury: Updates on Arsenal Star's Status and Return

Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista was ruled out for up to three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during the side's Premier League victory over Queens Park Rangers on Mar. 4. He has now returned to training.

Gabriel Returns to Training Ahead of Monaco Tie, Will Be In Squad

Monday, March 16

Gabriel began working with his team-mates on Monday, reported by Sky Sports. Arsene Wenger later confirmed that Gabriel is back in the Arsenal squad for the match, via Oliver Kay of The Times.

Wenger previously suggested the player may complete a quicker-than-expected recovery, telling Arsenal's official website: "Gabriel may be (available) next week," ahead of Tuesday's trip to Monaco in the Champions League.


Arsenal Report Three-Week Gabriel Absence

Gabriel initially stood to miss an important chunk of Arsenal's run-in after being ruled out until the end of March, per the club's official Twitter account:

He sat out of Mar. 9's FA Cup quarter-final victory against Manchester United, but Wenger will hope his January signing is nearly ready to put himself in contention again.


Gabriel Exits QPR Game with Injury

Wednesday, March 4

Gabriel display's against QPR, in which he picked up the problem, was just his fourth for the north London side, adding insult to Wenger's considerable injury problems this season.

The team officially announced, via its Twitter page, that he had to receive treatment at the 36-minute mark while Arseblog pointed out that the defender was subbed out in the aftermath.

The London Evening Standard and Gunnerblog provided Wenger's reaction after the match: 

Arsenal are currently in third place in the tightly contested Premier League, so they can ill afford to lose a potentially key defender for the final stretch.

The Gunners moved to within one point behind second-place Manchester City after their win over West Ham. Gabriel has the capacity to be an important figure in the hunt for Champions League football, the side's primary objective this season.
