Bangladesh vs. Scotland: Date, Live Stream, TV Info, Cricket World Cup Preview

Matt JonesMar 3, 2015

Bangladesh will be looking to take another big step toward the quarter-finals of the 2015 Cricket World Cup when they face Scotland in a vital Pool A clash.

The Tigers have endured a tournament of mixed fortunes so far but are well-placed in the standings coming into this one. Their rained-off match against co-hosts Australia earlier in the competition has also given them a point they would not have expected to pick up, adding credence to their qualification hopes.

They’ll be the big favourites against a Scotland side that has failed to impress at this World Cup. But after the Scots were on the end of a narrow one-wicket defeat to Afghanistan last time out, there will be a burning desire to respond when these two square off at the Saxton Oval in Nelson.

Here’s all the viewing details you need on where to catch this encounter and a look at both sides coming into what should be an entertaining affair.

Scotland Seeking First Victory at 2015 World Cup

While a one-wicket loss is hard to take in any circumstances, for Scotland the defeat against Afghanistan will have left an especially bitter taste.

They had the chance of a rudimentary run-out to take the final Afghan wicket, but Matt Machan missed with an underarm throw at the stumps; they conceded the boundary their opponents needed to win with the very next ball of the innings.

As noted by Ian Abrahams of talkSPORT, it’s a match they should definitely have won:

Despite that heartbreaking loss and the two that preceded it against New Zealand and England, there have been some small crumbs of positivity for Scots. Josh Davey in particular has stood out with the ball, taking nine wickets in three matches with his astute fast bowling.

As noted by CricketAtlas, the 24-year-old has been a real find for this Scotland team:

But the fact remains that this is a group that don’t have the quality needed to match the very best sides in this tournament and, after handing Afghanistan their first ever World Cup win, it’s difficult to see where a Scottish win is going to come from in any of their remaining Pool B fixtures.

Bangladesh will be hoping to capitalise on these fragilities and they could be the surprise team to make the quarter-final line-up this year. As previously noted, the point from the washout with Australia is a major boost and with England really struggling for form at the moment, there is definitely a last-eight berth there for the taking.

As noted by ByTheMin Cricket, it already looks as though the match between the Tigers and the Three Lions on March 9 is going to be a straight quarter-final shootout:

Bangladesh can’t afford any complacency here, though. In their previous match they were on the end of an emphatic 92-run defeat courtesy of Sri Lanka, but with classy operators like Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib al Hasan in situ, they should have too much for Scotland.

With games against Sri Lanka and Australia to come, this is Scotland’s last realistic chance of picking up a victory at the 2015 World Cup. Expect a diligent, determined display from them but, as has been the case throughout this tournament so far, for a lack of genuine quality to see them fall short of an elusive triumph.
