Denver's Chris "Beardman" Anderson Gets Wilder, But Team Too Tame With Lineup

Rich KurtzmanAug 13, 2009

On Wednesday, it was reported by The Denver Post's Chris Dempsey that the Birdman is now more than half-man half-beast—as he's definitely more beast than man, and some may even think stark-mad.

The Birdman was spotted in Yellowstone National Park with fiance Brandy Newman, and was seen sporting a brand new look, one without a permanent feeling.

Andersen currently has a "thickening beard" and he has persisted that he will not shave until his wedding next June.

That's right Nuggets fans, not only will Andersen have the crazy hair, and colorful tattoos—but a thick, dirty, and likely long beard.

Maybe he'll even get some new nicknames out of it, as he already coined "Grizzly-Bird."

But what about "ZZ Top of the Mountain," or just simply, "Beardman?"

"Beardman" must be feeling good with his engagement, as he was quick to make some predictions for the upcoming season.

When asked about other teams in the Western Conference, "Beardman" said, "They've improved, but the West has always been tough," Andersen said.

"It's not a cakewalk, that's for sure. We have tough teams to face, but what does it matter? Now that we've been to the Western Conference finals, we know what it takes, we know how hard we have to play to get there. And we can do it. Everybody knows how great we are now."

Confident to say the least.

Andersen finished, "I know J.R. (Smith) is going to play his role as good as anybody can. If he gets that starting spot that's going to be even deadlier for us."

Birdman has a point, but should he be so cocky?

Many teams that were around the Nuggets' final record have improved greatly, as Denver has basically stood pat with Birdman and Ty Lawson—that is until Linas Kleiza bolted for Europe a few days ago.

Now Denver must make a move, not a pick up Malik Allen and dump Steven Hunter type move, something and someone that will drastically improve this team.

Whoever he, or they are, it would be nice to get a three and a four, someone to back up 'Melo and K-Mart.

What Mark Warkentein and Rex Chapman have up their sleeves this late in free agency I don't know—let's all hope its a golden goose, not an ugly duckling.
