Stevens Was Reportedly Driving Team USA Van

Thursday, Jan. 22

TMZ reported on Jerramy Stevens' arrest for DUI, revealing new information that may have led to Hope Solo's suspension:

"

Hope Solo's husband Jerramy Stevens was driving a U.S. Soccer team van at the time of his DUI arrest Monday morning ... and we're told it was the main reason Hope was suspended from the team.

(...)

The U.S. National soccer team later suspended Hope for 30 days -- and we're told soccer officials were especially upset that Hope allowed her husband to drive the team van ... potentially leaving the team liable had their been an accident.

We reached out to team officials for comment -- so far, no word back.

Solo Suspended By USWNT for 30 Days

Wednesday, Jan. 21

The United States Soccer Federation has suspended veteran goalkeeper Hope Solo for 30 days.

ESPN's Jeremy Schaap reported the news:

"During our current national team camp, Hope made a poor decision that has resulted in a negative impact on U.S. Soccer and her teammates," said U.S. women's coach Jill Ellis, via The Washington Post's Steven Goff. "We feel at this time it is best for her to step away from the team."

She would release a statement of her own via her Twitter account:

Solo has found herself in the wrong headlines as of late. She recently had domestic violence charges filed against her after allegedly striking her nephew and half-sister, but those charges were dismissed. A week later, though, husband Jerramy Stevens was arrested on suspicion of DUI. During that traffic stop, Solo was reportedly nearly arrested after "acting belligerent" toward police officers, per TMZ's report.

The 33-year-old, long regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, has been with the senior team since 2000. She was in goal for the United States' 2008 and 2012 Olympic gold-medal victories as well as the second-place finish during the 2011 World Cup.

This suspension will keep her out of February friendlies against France and England as the team prepares for the 2015 World Cup this summer in Canada.

While she's out, Nicole Barnhart, who has 54 international caps, is next in line in goal. Ashlyn Harris and Alyssa Naeher will also see increased opportunities to prove themselves.
