Grenoble 0 - Marseille 2 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) The goal scorers for OM were Mamadou Niang and Benoit Cheyrou.

Le Mans 2 - Lyon 2 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) Modibo Maiga put the home side in front, Mathieu Bodmer equalised six minutes later. A penalty from Coutadeur on the hour looked to have given Le Mans the victory but Lisandro Lopez found a 90th minute equaliser.

Montpellier 1 - PSG 1 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) Cyril Jeunechamp received his marching orders for a second bookable offence on 34 minutes for the home side before Ludovic Giuly put the visitors ahead in the 71st minute but Emir Spahic netted a last-gasp equaliser.

Monaco 1 - Toulouse 0 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) Nene got the only goal of the game a minute before halftime to give Monaco victory against Toulouse.

Auxerre 0 - Sochaux 1 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) Sochaux also claimed an away victory at Auxerre thanks to Vaclav Suerkos’ 39th minute winner.

Valenciennes 1 - Nancy 3 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) Mamadou Samassa had put the home side ahead on nine minutes. But Floyd Ayite (20), Bakaye Traore (72) and Jonathan Brison (61) struck to give Nancy an emphatic win, while Valenciennes’ night then got even worse when Nicolas Penneteau received his marching orders deep into injury time.

St. Etienne 0 - Nice 2 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009)  Goals from Mahame Traore and Loic Remy earned Nice an opening day victory over St. Etienne.

Rennes 3 - Boulogne 0 (Ligue 1, August 8, 2009) An early goal from Ismael Bangoura set the tone and was followed by strikes from Kader Mangane and Jerome Leroy.
