Gotze Withdrawn vs. Ireland

Thursday, Oct. 8

The injury, suffered during Germany's Euro 2016 qualifying match with Ireland and reported by the world champions on Twitter, comes at the worst possible time for Gotze, with his club, Bayern Munich, set to embark on a crucial spell of games.

The World Cup winner has been in decent form for Bayern this season. The former Borussia Dortmund man is still looking to fully cement his spot in the first XI, and with that in mind, an injury layoff is the last thing the bright young playmaker needs.

According to WhoScored.com, Gotze has three assists and one goal to his name in the Bundesliga this season.

Bayern manager Pep Guardiola has other options in this area of the field, and consequently, his side shouldn't feel Gotze's absence too strongly.

But from the player's perspective, it's another setback in his attempt to scale the dazzling heights so many expected of him in the Bavarians' colours.
