Despite having returned to the Knicks lineup, Carmelo Anthony is still dealing with lingering knee soreness that has him listed as "out" for New York's game vs. Chicago, the Knicks announced:

'Melo admitted that people are advising him to take off a large chunk of time to allow his knee to heal, per Nick Friedell of ESPNChicago.com:

"

New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony is out for Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bulls because of left knee soreness and admitted before Thursday's shootaround that people close to him are trying to get him to shut things down for a few weeks.

"I have multiple people say kind of just shut it down," Anthony said. "Or just take time off. But at the end of the day, it's hard for me to just do that right now in the midst of what's happening with the team and this season. So just trying to be smart about that."

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News painted a bleak picture of the Knicks star's future:

"

It may take a small miracle for Carmelo Anthony to end up in the playoffs this season and similarly it may take a minor miracle for the Knicks franchise player not to land on an operating table at some point.

According to a source, Anthony has been playing with left knee soreness for much of the season and the fear is that it may require surgery to correct. Following Tuesday’s loss at New Orleans, Anthony admitted that he’s playing with pain and hinted that he may need time off to rest.

“At this point, it’s evaluating and seeing," Anthony said. “Some days are better than others. It’s a matter if I want to continue to play on it and the pain threshold. The flip side to that is we are losing games. I hate it, I hate to sit on the sidelines and watch my teammates.

"

Even with Anthony active for 21 out of the Knicks' 23 games this season, they are 4-19. The only Eastern Conference teams with a worse record are Detroit and Philadelphia. He's holding up his end of the bargain with 22.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, but nothing else is going right in New York.
