Sunday to Remember

Victor Martinez was 5-for-6 and drove in four runs for the Red Sox in the 18-10 win over the Orioles.

 

It was a Sunday that won’t be forgotten for a long time in MLB. These are some of the highlights from yesterdays action:

 

Red Sox 18 Orioles 10

The Red Sox and Orioles combined to score 28 runs and post 38 hits. Victor Martinez made a bid for more playing time with five hits in six at bats and drove in four runs.

David Ortiz was the only Red Sox starter to have a hitless game with an 0-for-5 game. Ortiz will probably be getting less playing time with Martinez on the roster.

The Red Sox took a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning but the Orioles scored six runs of their own in the bottom of the third to make it a 7-6 game but the Red Sox scored seven in the top of the fourth to make it a 14-6 game and went on to win 18-10.

 

Indians 11 Tigers 1

Meanwhile in Cleveland Carl Pavano held the Tigers to six singles in a 11-1 victory over the Tigers.

 

Yankees 8 White Sox 5

The Yankees behind the bat of Melky Cabrera took an 8-5 win over the White Sox. Cabrera hit for the cycle and drove in four runs.

CC Sabathia took the win but didn’t pitch that well giving up four doubles, a triple and two homers in the contest. Mark Buehrle gave up seven runs and 12 hits to take the loss.

 

Angels 13 Twins 4

Kendry Morales continued hitting well in his breakthrough year for the Angels hitting two homers and driving in six runs as the Angels pounded the hapless Twins 13-4. Jered Weaver (11-3) took the win for the Angels.

 

Rockies 6 Reds 4

Jason Marquis lost his chance for his 13th win of the season when newly acquired reliever Joe Beimel gave up a blown save. Joey Votto homered off of Beimel to tie the score at 4-4.

Dexter Fowler hit a tie breaking triple in the 11th inning and then scored later as the Rockies remained tied for the wild card lead with the 6-4 win. They are tied with the Giants and both teams are two ahead of the Cubs.

 

Astros 2 Cardinals 0

Bud Norris making his first major league start held the Cardinals to two hits in seven innings as he posted the win in the 2-0 shutout of the Cardinals.

 

Brewers 6 Padres 1

The Brewers scored five times in the top of the seventh to take a 6-1 victory over the Padres. The win coupled with the Astros win over the Cardinals kept the Brewers tied for third in the NL Central with the Astros.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Brewers who travel to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers today.

 

Marlins 3 Cubs 2

The Marlins hit back to back homers in the ninth inning by Dan Uggla and Cody Ross to take a 3-2 walkoff win over the Cubs.

Kevin Gregg blew a save for the second consecutive day to take the loss.

The Cubs remained a half game behind the Cardinals as both teams lost on Sunday.

 

Dodgers 9 Braves 1

The Dodgers throttled the Braves 9-1 behind Matt Kemp who drove in five runs.

Chad Billingsley (11-6) took the win. The Dodgers are the only team in NL West with a losing record in their last 10 games. They are 4-6 in their last 10 games.
