Rainey Questionable for Week 14
A frustrating season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continues to get more maddening in light of an injury to running back Bobby Rainey.
According to Rick Brown of The Ledger Media Group, Rainey is questionable for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions:
"Official injury report for #Bucs-Lions for Sunday: Questionable are Collins, David, Foster, McDonald, Myers, Rainey, ASJ.
— Rick Brown (@LedgeronBucs) December 5, 2014"
Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports Rainey hasn't practiced all week:
This is a huge blow for a Buccaneers offense that has had enough problems to deal with in 2014. Josh McCown was a disappointment as the starting quarterback, so Mike Glennon was put back in the role. Doug Martin's decline since his breakout rookie season continued, so Rainey took the reins.
The 27-year-old looked like a potential star following his breakout game against St. Louis in Week 2. He ran for 144 yards on 22 carries and collected 30 more yards on three receptions.
NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal noted that nothing about Rainey's performance in that game was a fluke:
Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times (via Ross Tucker of NBC Sports Network) noted before Tampa Bay's Week 3 game against Atlanta, which was a 56-14 blowout for the Falcons, that the coaching staff really likes Rainey:
Of course, there may not be anything that can save the 2-10 Buccaneers in 2014.
Their problems go well beyond issues at running back. Rainey's inconsistency hasn't helped matters, but if he was the biggest dilemma each week, things wouldn't be as bad as they have gotten.
