Palmer Undergoes Successful Surgery

Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com provides a statement from Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians discussing Palmer's "great" surgery:

"

Arians said on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday night that the surgery also repaired 'very, very small cartilage' damage in addition to Palmer's ACL.

'Everything else was intact and fine,' Arians said.

Palmer told Arians he'll be back on the field for 2015 organized team activities (OTAs), the coach said, but Arians is skeptical his 34-year-old quarterback, who turns 35 in December, will be back that quickly.

'I'm hoping July 1,' Arians said.

"

Mike Jurecki of FoxSports910.com first reported Monday that Palmer would undergo surgery Tuesday in Phoenix because swelling in his knee finally subsided.

Palmer Exits Week 10 Due to Knee Injury

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is back among the team's list of concerns after suffering a knee injury during a Week 10 game against the St. Louis Rams.

Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com provided details of the injury-causing play:

As Around the NFL noted, the knee was the same one Palmer injured earlier in his career:

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole provided an update after Arizona's win:

However, coach Bruce Arians isn't confirming the severity of the injury according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com:

The quarterback signed a three-year, $50 million contract extension earlier in the week, as reported by NFL.com.

Palmer previously missed three games this season because of a lingering nerve issue involving his throwing shoulder. It was a troublesome injury because several weeks passed without any notable progress before he was finally able to return in Week 6.

Unfortunately for Palmer and the Arizona offense, he's once again dealing with a setback that leaves his status up in the air. More details about the latest issue should be released following further evaluation.

The only silver lining for the Cardinals is backup quarterback Drew Stanton's strong play. He doesn't possess the same gunslinger mentality that Palmer does, but he's a reliable backup capable of filling the void to ensure the offensive production doesn't suffer a major drop-off.

The Cardinals must continue to make strides on the offensive side of the ball if they want to become legitimate Super Bowl contenders. If Palmer is forced to miss an extended period of time, that won't be easy.
