George Groves vs. Christopher Rebrasse: Winner, Scorecard and Analysis
George Groves claimed the EBU and WBC Silver super middleweight titles with a unanimous-decision victory over Christopher Rebrasse on Saturday evening.
The Wembley Arena played host to a more confident Groves display than fans have seen in his most recent bouts, BBC Sport confirming the Englishman's bounce back to winning ways:
Betfair revealed the judge's scorecards:
"Saint George" started the fight as the more confident combatant and put a lot of work into his opening rounds, and European champion Rebrasse initially struggled to keep up with the pace.
The third round in particular saw Groves take the fight to his opponent, landing a series of valuable blows early on but failing to land any killer blow.

Rebrasse grew into the match as it wore on, though, and that early drive appeared to fatigue the home fighter, with Wembley's support bellowing renditions of "God Save The Queen" and other national anthems all the while.
Live Fight noted how quickly the tide turned with respect to the pundits' commentary as Rebrasse weathered the storm, the 28-year-old managing to withstand whatever Groves had to throw:
"Watt/Halling quickly move from slating Rebrasse, saying Groves is magnificent , to saying they are "worried" about GG in just 60 seconds.

"Withstand" was the operative word in that context, though, as Rebrasse still struggled to assert much pressure of his own, absorbing punishment in droves without unleashing much in terms of counter-attack.
Midway through the fight, Groves was starting to welcome shots from his foe. Trainer Michael Jennings and The Fight Buzz each noted evident deficiencies in his approach:
Nine rounds in, and it was clear Rebrasse's only method of victory could come through an early stoppage.
And according to former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli, the bout may yet have gone in favour of either fighter, Rebrasse's lack of power punching his main obstacle:
The Observer's Kevin Mitchell was far more confident in Groves' lead:
The Sun - Boxing confirmed the direction in which the result was heading, with Groves needing to take no risks during the fight's closing rounds:
With fatigue setting in and hands dropping, Rebrasse showed the strength of his chin as Groves bombarded him with heavy hits in periods, to no avail.
In the end, a new EBU champion was rightfully crowned, taking the vacant WBC Silver super middleweight title, too. But it didn't come without its share of learning points for the victor to survey.

Prior to the fight, Saint George was quoted by the Daily Mail's Jeff Powell as saying, "I’m back on track to win a world title, and I’m aware I can’t afford another mistake."
With a WBC world super middleweight shot now in the bag, there are certainly learning points to take from this result, but the building blocks are once again being put in place to re-establish Groves' global candidacy.
