Golden Tate and Michael Floyd are two of the reasons Irish fans are excited about 2009. They are expected to be one of the most dynamic receiving duos in college football.

Both are off to great starts in their Notre Dame career. Tate has really become a deep threat and can just flat out make big plays happen.

Floyd broke all kinds of freshman school receiving records in 2008. He is also a deep threat but he can also catch it in space and run after the catch.

With Tate's ability to take it to the house and Floyd's ability to keep the drive moving, these guys should be exciting to watch. The talent is definitely there, but what can really push these guys to the next level?

The answer is competition. Now I don't mean competing with the other teams. I mean competing with each other. Both Floyd and Tate should want to be the primary receiver every week. Both should want the most catches, most yards, and most touchdowns.

Competition amongst each other will make both of them better and will only help the team. Some may not like the idea and say it will divide the the team. I say look at history.

It is a known fact that Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig hated each other. That hatred made them want to out stage the other person. As a result they ended up hitting about 150 home runs between the two of them in one season. Then they realized that they were great together and became better friends.

Now I don't think Floyd and Tate hate each other nor do I want them to. However, it would definitely be beneficial to them and the team. The competition does need to be a friendly competition though. You do need them throwing down field blocks for each other.

If these two can be competitive with each other, it will make Jimmy Clausen more successful. Both guys will be fighting for balls and that will make Clausen's stats sky rocket.

One thing is for sure, Tate and Floyd will be two guys worth watching in South Bend.
