Writer's Challenge: College Football
In my opinion there are lots of writers on here that know a lot about their team or teams. They generally know only slightly less about the rest of the teams in their conference. From there they usually know about the non-conference teams on their team's schedule.
Some writers know about other major contenders such as Florida, Texas, USC and Ohio State but don’t know as much about Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Washington State and Indiana.
Others only really know about the automatic qualifiers and don’t know the difference between Mountain West teams and WAC teams or that Western Kentucky is now a DIA Sun Belt team.
I try to keep up on all the teams, from number one to number 120. That still doesn’t mean I know all there is to know or all that I want to. I read a couple of the preseason magazines each summer. Team by team, in at least two different publications. I don’t retain it all but later in the season when I hear a name I can usually recall a little about the player or team.
My challenge to all of you out there is to write a piece on a team you have little knowledge about. This will likely have no implications on your team's outcome. Meaning they aren’t in your conference and they aren’t on your non-conference schedule.
I would like to see a Georgia fan’s analysis of a team like San Jose State or San Diego State, a Washington fan’s opinion of Boston College, a Texas Longhorns opinion on the state of the Army football team.
Pick a team that as you're reading about you probably couldn’t name one or two players, for example a team that you don’t know how they finished last year.
If you feel like you could do this for all 120 teams, pick a DIAA team. If you choose to take on my challenge, and I hope some of you will, please send me a link to your article once you have published it.
I'm looking forward to reading some different takes on teams other than just your average homers.
If you know who the guy in the photo is Bonus points for you, but that means you probably can't pick FAU.
